Founded by musician Zac Brown, music has always been at the heart of Camp Southern Ground – shaping connection, expression, and a sense of belonging across everything we do. This April, that legacy continues through our Designed for Every Mind campaign, celebrating neurodiversity while raising support for the future Music Meadow – an inclusive, sensory-friendly space for children, veterans, and families to thrive.
The Music Meadow will come to life as the next phase of the Outdoor Sensory Pathway, guiding guests through calming, sensory-friendly elements toward an interactive outdoor musical experience. Surrounded by natural seating, gathering areas, and quiet spaces for reflection, it creates a journey that supports both exploration and restoration.
More than a beautiful space, the Music Meadow is purpose-built to support the whole child. By combining outdoor play with music, campers engage multiple senses at once – through sound, movement, and touch – supporting coordination, cognitive growth, and sensory integration while building both fine and gross motor skills.
Its impact extends into social and emotional development as well. In this collaborative, low-pressure environment, campers can participate at their own comfort level—learning to listen, take turns, and create together while building confidence and connection. For many, especially those who are neurodiverse, music becomes a powerful way to express emotions and connect when words fall short.
The Meadow will also expand Camp Southern Ground’s music programming, offering new opportunities for creativity, from free exploration to structured experiences like songwriting and group collaboration. By moving music into an open-air setting, we create a more accessible, immersive experience that reaches more campers in meaningful ways.
Equally important is its impact on mental health and emotional regulation. Nature already helps reduce stress and improve mood—when paired with music, those benefits deepen. The Music Meadow will provide a space to reset, recharge, and reflect, offering a calming environment that helps campers stay engaged without feeling overwhelmed.
Designed to expand access and inclusion, the Meadow invites participation across ages, abilities, and backgrounds – becoming not just an activity space, but a place where community naturally forms and belonging takes root.
Beyond summer camp, the Music Meadow will serve families and veterans year-round. Families will connect through shared musical experiences, while veterans will find a restorative space to decompress, reflect, and reconnect in a peaceful outdoor setting.
When individuals feel supported, included, and empowered, the impact lasts far beyond their time at camp – confidence grows, creativity flourishes, connections deepen, and a lasting sense of belonging takes root.
