Camp Southern Ground Camper Awarded Kopka Scholarship

Aug 30, 2024

Camp Southern Ground is proud to announce that Aurianna Watts, an 11-year-old summer camper in the Laceleaf Tribe, has been awarded the 2024 Kopka Scholarship. Given in partnership with Hope For The Warriors and presented in honor of Colonel John Kopka (Retired), a dedicated advocate for military families and veterans, The Kopka Scholarship recognizes young individuals who exhibit exceptional empathy and appreciation in their daily lives.

As a member of a Gold Star Marine Corps family, Aurianna has already demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience. Known for her sweet and respectful nature, Aurianna has shown herself to be an exceptional individual, always standing up for what is right, and her integrity and kindness were noticed by fellow campers and staff alike. It is clear that Aurianna possesses a heart full of empathy, a quality at the core of the Kopka Scholarship’s mission.

“We are incredibly proud of Aurianna and the strength she has shown,” said Matty Cook, Camp Director of Camp Southern Ground. “Her commitment to not letting her challenges define her sets an example for all, and we look forward to seeing her continue to grow and shine.”
