Summer Camp at Camp Southern Ground
STORIES OF HOPE
The Dudley Family
The Dudleys have been part of the Camp Southern Ground story since the very beginning. What started as a place for their children to spend a week each summer has evolved into something deeper. As a military family – dad Chris is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and current Georgia Army National Guard captain – they’ve also experienced the impact of Warrior Family Camp. Their journey is one of resilience and the power of belonging – and we’re honored to be a part of it.

Our family has had an incredible experience at Camp Southern Ground over the past seven years. Each year, my children – Grey, Gaston, and Georgia – return home bursting with excitement, sharing stories about their favorite meals, the friends they’ve made, and the new activities and skills they’ve learned. They share how they challenge themselves to try new things (Confidence Course, mountain biking, performing a skit, archery, making sushi), they sing new camp songs, show us their dances, and rave about their wonderful camp counselors.
While spending a week away from home can be intimidating, CSG has created a comforting environment that boosts their confidence year after year. The joy and growth we see in our children after attending camp are truly a gift. We can’t thank Camp Southern Ground enough for the lasting impact it has had on our family!
As a neurodivergent family, CSG is one of the few environments where my child can fully and authentically be himself. He feels seen, loved, and accepted for who he is, making it his favorite week of the year. He receives the support he needs to thrive.

As a military family, attending Warrior Family Camp was a memorable experience. It allowed us to see Camp Southern Ground through our children’s eyes and enjoy it ourselves. We also had the opportunity to connect with other veteran and active-duty families over several days through various rewarding activities and exercises. CSG provided us with a chance to pause life’s distractions, have fun, be silly, and fully engage with each other as a family and with others. We walked away from this experience inspired in a variety of ways and recommitted to our family goals and values.
