A Partnership Rooted in Support and Strength

The partnership between TAPS and Camp Southern Ground is grounded in a shared commitment to honor and support Gold Star families. Now in its second year, this collaboration continues to offer a place of connection and hope. Here, TAPS Youth Programs Advisor Jason Stout reflects on the impact of this powerful weekend – and the strength found when two mission-driven organizations come together in service of military survivors.

I wanted to take a moment to share with you our team’s experience at Camp Southern Ground, where we had the privilege this spring of running a family camp for military survivors through the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). This was our second year collaborating with Camp Southern Ground, and once again, we were deeply impressed by the quality and impact of the camp’s facilities and staff.

Our team, which included veterans, active-duty personnel, and youth program specialists, was thoroughly impressed by the welcoming and compassionate atmosphere that greeted us from the moment we arrived. The camp’s culture of understanding and safety allowed both youth and adults to open up and engage fully with the experience.

Supporting grieving youth and families requires a unique blend of care, compassion, and expertise, and Camp Southern Ground excelled in all areas. The seamless collaboration between our team and the exceptional staff ensured a program that was impactful and well-executed. It was truly an extraordinary experience that doesn’t compare to any other.

From camp preparation through to the program’s execution, the staff worked shoulder-to-shoulder with us to ensure everything ran smoothly. Their expertise, dedication, and high standards were evident in every aspect of the camp, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work with such a professional and caring team.
