From Campfires to Careers

Nov 17 | What Different Can Do

Working at Camp Southern Ground isn’t just a job—it’s an unforgettable experience that helps you grow both personally and professionally. Our mission is all about inclusion, leadership, and building community, creating a space where you can develop skills that will stick with you for life. It’s more than a stepping stone for your future—it’s a chance to make a real impact and have fun while you’re at it!

Leadership and Responsibility

Our counselors and staff are entrusted with significant responsibilities around camper activities and safety. This hands-on experience helps young adults develop strong leadership qualities, such as decision-making, conflict resolution, and effective communication. Whether managing a group of energetic campers or guiding them through new experiences like mountain biking and kayaking, staff members gain practical leadership experience that is transferable to any career.

Teamwork and Collaboration

Working alongside a diverse team of peers and supervisors, young adults at Camp Southern Ground experience the power of collaboration in a professional setting. The camp’s ‘5-Character Culture’ model, which emphasizes curiosity, friendship, teamwork, responsibility, and independence, provides a strong foundation for learning how to work effectively in a team, skills highly sought after in any workplace. Our summer staff leave with a deeper understanding of how to navigate group dynamics, communicate with people from different backgrounds, and achieve common goals.

Problem-Solving and Adaptability

A camp environment is dynamic and notoriously unpredictable, requiring staff to think on their feet and adapt quickly to new situations. Whether it’s adjusting to a sudden change in weather during an outdoor activity or finding creative solutions to help campers overcome personal challenges, young adults are forced to develop strong problem-solving skills. These experiences build resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure, qualities that are valuable in any career field.

Networking and Community Building

At Camp Southern Ground, we connect young adults with a community of peers and professionals passionate about making a difference. Beyond the summer, this network offers mentorship and career opportunities. Additionally, our focus on inclusion, leadership, and service is an impressive addition to any resume!

If you or a young adult you know is seeking to build essential career skills while making a difference in the lives of children, Camp Southern Ground could be the place for you. Visit campsouthernground.org/summer-staff to learn more and apply today!
