Celebrating a Summer of Growth, Inclusion, and Adventure

Oct 11 | What Different Can Do

A Message from our Camp Director

It was another memorable summer at Camp Southern Ground, and we’re filled with gratitude and pride for the experiences we’ve shared and the lasting impact we’ve made. Now, we’re excited to introduce our Summer Impact Report, which highlights those moments of growth, adventure, and most importantly, inclusion. that made this season exceptional.

Inclusion as Our Cornerstone

Inclusion is not just a buzzword at Camp Southern Ground; it’s the foundation of our camp culture. This summer, we welcomed a record number of campers, with more than 35% identifying as neurodivergent. These campers brought unique perspectives, talents, and joys that made the camp experience richer for everyone. By fostering an environment where children of all abilities can learn and grow together, we create a community that celebrates differences and empowers every camper to thrive.

Supporting Our Military Families

We’re honored to support children from veteran and active-duty military families, who make up over 50% of our campers. These children face unique challenges, and our programs provide a safe, nurturing space where they can build camaraderie, find understanding, and create lasting connections. By bringing together campers from different backgrounds, we help them develop empathy and a deeper understanding of one another—qualities that will carry them far beyond their time at camp.

Adventures in Nature

This summer, we introduced campers to new adventures that pushed them to learn, grow, and discover their own capabilities. Our oldest campers took to Lake McIntosh for kayaking trips, many for the very first time, where they gained new paddling skills, learned teamwork, and built resilience. We also launched a new wilderness mountain biking trail, which quickly became a favorite activity across all age groups. These programs not only encouraged physical fitness but also fostered an enduring love for the outdoors.

Our Dedicated Team

Our camp’s success wouldn’t be possible without our passionate and dedicated counselors and staff. They ensure that each child feels seen, respected, and capable of achieving great things. Their dedication to creating a supportive and empowering environment for our campers, and we are grateful for their hard work and commitment to our mission.
