Celebrating Every Child

Apr 4 | What Different Can Do

April is the perfect time to honor What Different Can Do—from Diversity Month to World Autism Month to the Month of the Military Child, we’re celebrating what makes us beautifully unique. At Camp Southern Ground, inclusivity isn’t just a goal; it’s at the core of everything we do. Every child deserves a chance to thrive in a supportive and nurturing environment, regardless of their background or the challenges they may face.

Our inclusive model welcomes neurodivergent children, those from military families, and those facing financial hardship. But we don’t define our campers by labels. We recognize that many kids, whether diagnosed or not, face challenges like anxiety, social struggles, or feeling different. Here, every child finds a supportive space to build confidence, independence, and lifelong friendships.

At Camp Southern Ground, diversity isn’t just about who we include; it’s about fostering a sense of real belonging and a radical kinship that creates an environment where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to discover their full potential. Typically developing campers also thrive in this diverse environment, gaining empathy, understanding, and leadership skills as they interact with peers from different backgrounds and abilities. Through shared experiences—whether making music in the Space-Crab Treehouse, conquering the ropes course, or simply laughing around the campfire—campers learn resilience, teamwork, and the joy of belonging.

As Zac Brown, our founder, says: ‘Camp Southern Ground is a place where kids from all walks of life can come together, learn from each other, and grow. Serving such a diverse population allows us to create an experience of unity and belonging for every child.’

This month, we invite you to join us in celebrating different, inclusion, and the transformative power of summer camp. Together, we can shape a summer that helps every child step into the world with greater confidence, deeper compassion, and a true sense of belonging.
